That’s the case with Hot Spots, a new part of the game that may not be obvious to anyone at a first glance. Fortnite fans should keep reading this guide to learn all there to know about this in order to implement it in their gameplay and always be on their A-game.

What Are Hot Spots?

At the start of the match, everyone has the habit of opening the map so that they can look at the Battle Bus trajectory and decide which location on the map is the best for a first landing. And, unlike last season, some of the named locations will appear in gold rather than the usual white lettering.

The named locations written in gold are considered Hot Spots during the match. There are quests in the game that ask the player to land at a Hot Spot at the start of the match. Drones will be flying over these Hot Spot areas and they can be shot down and drop loot. It can be risky to go to a Hot Spot since it’s more likely that opponent players will also go there to increase their chances of getting good early-game loot and get an advantage over other players.

Drones are a great way to get the Shockwave Hammer, one of the most recently added weapons in Fortnite. This is a weapon that can normally only be found in Oathbound Chests that spawn in specific locations of the map so having the chance to acquire it some other way is awesome.

Claiming a Hot Spot POI at the start of the game isn’t such a bad idea since for a while all enemy players that enter the location will appear highlighted on the player’s screen. However, they’re particularly more dangerous and have to be approached carefully as more players than usual will be lurking the surrounding areas.

Fortnite is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and mobile devices.
