Fortnite doesn’t really let players upgrade themselves during the course of a match. While they can find better loot, and upgrade their weapons, their general abilities remain the same. Well, Fortnite Chapter 4 has finally changed that, and through its new Augment system, players can upgrade themselves with a range of different abilities, from receiving bonus ammo to gaining shields automatically.

Fortnite Chapter 4’s New Augment System Explained
When players drop into their first match of Fortnite Chapter 4, they’ll be told by a voiceover that thanks to the fabric of reality breaking in the aftermath of the Fracture finale event, they now have access to a range of Augments. By pressing right on the D-Pad, or the “7” key on PC, players will access a special Augment menu. From here, two potential Augments will be revealed, each offering the player a unique upgrade. The player can choose one of the upgrades listed, or re-roll their selection to get a different set of Augments to choose from. Players can re-roll for free once per match, otherwise they’ll need to spend gold to do so.
Another set of Augments will be available in a few minutes’ time, and this process repeats until the player has a total of four Augments. When starting out in Fortnite Chapter 4, players have a limited selection of Augments to choose from, but the more they play, the more Augments they’ll unlock. These hidden Augments can be unlocked faster if players use the weapons or items associated with them. For instance, an Augment related to the fishing rod will be more likely to unlock if the player has one equipped.
The Best Augments to Choose in Fortnite Chapter 4
When players have unlocked all of Fortnite Chapter 4’s Augments they should have a total of 22 to choose from. While these Augments are given to the player at random, players should try to equip only the most useful ones, as there’s a limit of four in a match. One of the best Augments to get in Fortnite Chapter 4 is “Bloodhound,” which pings an enemy for a short duration after they’ve been successfully hit by a marksman rifle or bow. Another Augment that should be equipped in every Fortnite match is the “Splash Medic” Augment, which gives players a higher chance of finding Chug Splashes in any container or chest they open.
The “More Parkour” Augment requires a little more effort than the last two, but its reward can be much greater. Equipping this Augment grants players a burst of stamina when they mantle or hurdle over an obstacle, allowing them to sprint for a longer duration. If players use this Augment skillfully, then they can end up having a near-infinite amount of energy, which is perfect for players in solo lobbies who need to make a quick getaway. Another incredibly useful Augment is the “Bow Specialist” upgrade, which lets players draw their bows faster, reload arrows faster, and regenerate arrows automatically over time.
Fortnite is available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
