Fortnite has now announced on Twitter that Lizzo’s hit song “About Damn Time” is the inspiration for a new emote. The song was the lead single from her album Special, and was a huge hit in spring of this year. The emote has the character moving to a viral TikTok dance developed by prominent social media personality, dancer, and choreographer Jaeden Gomez, and Fortnite made sure to give the artist a shout-out in the tweet.

Gomez, upon hearing the song, was inspired to create a dance that made people feel confident and draw out their inner badass. After posting to TikTok, the video gained popularity, eventually making its way to Lizzo herself, who fell in love with it. While at Coachella, Lizzo performed the dance and posted to social media. From there, the dance went viral, exploding all in popularity on TikTok and social media in general. Later, Lizzo appeared on Carpool Karaoke with James Corden and the pair sang “About Damn Time” only to be interrupted when Corden decided he wanted to learn the famous dance. Lizzo proceeded to get out of the car and call a troupe of background dancers, including Jaeden Gomez herself.

With popularity like that, It’s no wonder the dance became the latest TikTok trend to become a Fortnite emote. With its constant collaborations with video game IPs, film franchises, and musical artists, Fortnite is on a continuous quest to stay relevant. Connecting with someone like Lizzo and ensuring the TikTok personality who choreographed the piece is included is a move that will surely please players. In fact, comments on the tweet signal that fans are already very on board.

The other hot topic in the comments though, was fans clamoring to have their preferred emotes or skins being added to Fortnite. With such a passionate and invested fan base, it seems like the developers won’t run out of new ideas anytime soon.

Fortnite is available now on mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
